Cujo by Stephen King

🌕🌕🌕🌕🌕

Little Tad is afraid of the monster that hides in his closet. His parents can feel something is off, even if they will not admit it to him. His father recites the monster words that keep him safe and little Tad finds comfort in them.

Cujo is a friendly Saint Bernard dog. He loves his family, and his family loves him. One day Cujo is chasing a rabbit when he slides into a hole and becomes scratched by rabid bat. Cujo can feel something changing inside him, the people who he used to like seeing now make him want to attack. He isn't sure what is going on with him, the only thing he's sure of is he now wants to eat human flesh.

This was a win for me. Cujo had my heart racing. I was desperate for the outcome to be less painful than I was expecting. It wasn't. It was worse. King found a way to create a dire situation that could of actually happened, before cell phones of course, where everything was constructed so tightly. The set up was brilliant. Nothing was overlooked. There was a reason why everything happened the way it did. An affair, a business trip, a car needing repair, all placed exactly where it needed to be in order for everything to fall into place.

This book was scary! It was like when you're watching something horrifying but can't look away. I thought it was just crazy good. This is definitely a good scary book to read around Halloween. Especially if you already have a fear of dogs.

  1. This is one of the few Stephen King books that I just can't bring myself to read. Right up there with Old Yeller. Great review, though! Glad you enjoyed it :) Stephen King is definitely the master at scary.

  2. Thanks! Stephen King definitely knows how to play on human emotions to create dread and fear. Were there any books by him that you have (or haven't) read that you'd like to see a review on.
